Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to come for the whole week?
No! A typical ranch stay is a week. For example, the Friday night dinner is a goodbye fiesta, but they do have guests who come for shorter stays; Saturday to Wednesday and Wednesday to  Saturday are not uncommon, but will still be fabulous and certainly more affordable.

What will the weather be like?
Cancun, it is not. It’s winter so that it will be brisk in the morning and night. A sporty Winter jacket will keep you comfortable. Usually, daytime brings bright California sunshine. It could rain, but anyway you slice it, it will be better than the East Coast.

What will our day-to-day be like?
Your day-to-day will be about you. You can do as much or as little as you want. Morning hikes are fantastic, and each day’s schedule offers classes, lifestyle lectures, and other activities like arts and crafts and cooking classes. The RLP website has great detail about the offerings. Personally, I usually hike and do some combo of pickleball, pilates, yoga, and other classes I am in the mood for, but there is no pressure to partake in anything specific. You can sit around and read and nap all day if that’s what you feel like doing!

What if I want to indulge? Are certain items forbidden?
Never fear—there is caffeinated coffee and a wine bar that also serves 🍺 . Friday night dinner includes wine. Booze is permitted in the rooms, I anticipate a few spontaneous happy hours, and you can go out to dinner on your own if you are so moved. There are some great restaurants in town. They serve a healthy dessert at dinner. No smoking.

Jeez, this is so far away. Do I need to book now? Must I be reminded of our age group?
The farther in advance you can book, the better. You’ll get preferred accommodations, and the ranch will see our fierce critical mass and craft an even more special experience for us.

Could I bring guests?
OF COURSE. Invite your spouse, siblings, offspring, and other friends! The more people who gather to experience RLP, the happier I will be. I’ve made such dear friends and had so many meaningful experiences there that I want to share them with my loved ones as well as their loved ones! While it’s my celebration, I will be most happy when people come away transformed by the Ranch, and that will have very little to do with my aging issues!

How do I stay connected with home?
As of now, not all the rooms have WiFi, and cell service is often meh. This is in the name of a digital detox. There are public lounges with WiFi, phone booths, and hard lines in the rooms. Talking on your phone in common areas is prohibited. No TVs in the room either. There is a conference room that you can reserve to conduct Zoom calls. If you are thinking you can WFH here, that’s not realistic unless you have WiFi in your room. I’ve tried, and it was stressful.
