Alebrijes by Zeny Fuentes

Alebrijes are brightly colored Mexican folk art sculptures of fantastical creatures, are hand-hewn and painted by the award-winning artist Zeny Fuentes. Each piece is carved from the traditional copal wood and then painted with handmade brushes and maguey cactus thorns. The designs represent the confluence of culture, history, and nature.
About the Artist-  Zeny Fuentes is a Zapoteca Indian and a fourth-generation woodcarver from San Martín Tilcajete, Oaxaca, Mexico. Zeny’s father, Epifanio Fuentes, known as the most famous carver in San Martín Tilcajete, taught him how to carve and paint at age seven.
