Tai Chi/Qigong Class
Cari Shurman first developed at interest in Tai Chi and Qigong in 1991 when she was visiting secondary schools in China. She was immediately impressed by the silence as the students did the movements and their ability to focus and learn after the exercise. Returning to the US she studied with many teachers throughout the US and returned twice to China to study at the Beijing Medical Qigong Institute. She has been teaching Tai Chi and Qigong for over 25 years. Working with teachers and students all over the country she has set up programs in hundreds of schools to improve focus and cooperation as students release anxiety and frustration. She also teaches adult classes. The classes are focused on improving flexibility, balance, health and relaxation. The movements strengthen all the organ systems of the body. She has been teaching at Rancho La Puerta for over 10 years. The Harvard Medical School Journal names Tai chi and /or Qigong as one of the 5 most important exercises for healthy aging.
