Filmmakers and Filmmaking with Rachel Feldman

Week of December 19, 2026

Introduction: Are you curious about filmmakers and filmmaking? Are you interested in film & television development, production & distribution and how things are changing? Are you interested in how writers get ideas, what directors actually do, & the role of a producer? Find out & ask all that you’ve ever wondered.

Session 1 – Movie Night at RLP with the feature film LILLY, starring Oscar-nominated & multi–Golden Globe winner Patricia Clarkson, and filmmaker Rachel Feldman.

Event screening of LILLY, based on the life of fair pay activist, Lilly Ledbetter, voted by Variety as “one of the BEST underrated movies of 2025.” Learn about the 17-year journey to get the film made and how it was the first feature film directed by Feldman after a four-decade career directing television. LILLY is a deeply emotional drama with a toe-tapping score that will make you laugh and cry. Don’t forget to bring your hankies.

Session 2 – “A Creative Career in Hollywood.” Rachel Feldman will discuss building a career in an industry that is not usually kind to unknown creatives, nor to women. Find out about how film and television is made, about working with famous actors, and about navigating both passions for social justice and cinema.

Session 3 – “Adaptation.” A session on how to take a personal story, novel or magazine and transform it into a screenplay. Using examples of Lilly Ledbetter’s memoir, “Grace & Grit” to create the screenplay for LILLY, and currently her new limited series that’s based on a novel, Feldman will discuss how to walk the line between honoring the source and developing the story into more. Bring your own ideas to discuss.

Session 4 – “What does a Director actually do?” Using Feldman’s directing reel, she will break down scenes and take the group through casting, location scouting, prep week, shooting and editing.

Rachel Feldman’s recent directing credits include: BLUE BLOODS, CRIMINAL MINDS, THE ROOKIE. Early in her career, she directed classics such as PICKET FENCES, DOOGIE HOWSER, LIZZIE MACGUIRE and many more. Feldman wrote and directed Lifetime movies, SHE’S NO ANGEL, LOVE NOTES, RECIPE FOR A PERFECT CHRISTMAS and directed WITCHCRAFT III for SyFy. In development currently is: a familycomedy feature with producers Merri Howard (FIVE STAR WEEKEND) and Sara Fischer (BRIDGERTON) and a crime drama, limited series with a major studio. Feldman began as a child actor best known for voicing the character of Lucy in Peanuts animation. Full bio/ credits @ www.RachelFeldman.com www.LillyMovie.com
