A detailed discussion about thriving during perimenopause/menopause and not just surviving this transitional period that all women go through. A review the hormonal/physical changes that are the hallmark of menopause. Different definitions and how to make the diagnosis of peri and menopause. Options for management including both hormonal/non hormonal options. Who is not a candidate for HRT. Q&A session 

Menopause & Mojo: Where Did It Go?
Often menopausal symptoms and physiologic changes can lead to a decrease in libido, painful sex, vaginal dryness, and inability to achieve orgasm.  Detailed discussion of what can be done hormonally from a libido and desire standpoint. Address the “mechanics” – to make sex fun and comfortable again. How vaginal estrogen is the gold standard for maintaining sexual and urinary health in menopause.

Sticks and Stones May Break Our Bones and So Can Menopause
My goal as a gynecologist and a menopause expert is to empower my patients to stay strong and healthy. This intervention has to come when the woman is in midlife not after the fracture has happened. Hip fracture will affect almost 30% of women, half of whom will be admitted to a nursing home, and half of those women will die.

We have to focus of the appropriate supplements, exercises, and screening diagnostic tests to prevent.

Unpacking the mystery of the menopausal belly. An honest and non-judgmental conversation about weight gain in menopause due to a shift in hormonal, genetic, and environmental factors. How insulin, glucose, and cholesterol metabolism are all affected by the lack of estrogen and the impact this has on health and weight.

The focus will be on nutrition including guidelines for macros such as protein, sugar, carbohydrate, and fiber intake.

 

Dr. Shefali Patel, MD, FACOG, is a board-certified OB/GYN who specializes in the full spectrum of gynecologic care. In addition to routine gynecological care, she now focuses on providing expert menopause and perimenopause care. She earned her medical degree, and completed her residency from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in NYC. Dr. Patel spends many hours a year in continuing medical education to provide the most current medical care.
