Health Benefits of Argentinian Tango

AlenaFrontYardThis is a guest post by Elena Pankey of the Tango Caminito Dance Company.  Elena and her husband, Victor Pankey will be teaching “Tango as a Relationship Therapist” as well as other tango classes at the Ranch October 19-25, 2014.

Benefits of the Argentinian Tango Dance: Research confirms that authentic Argentinian Tango has been shown to help heal neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease.  Tango uses several forms of movements such as balance, turning, and moving backwards, which are especially relevant to improving health. It has also been suggested that tango makes people feel more relaxed, sexier, less depressed, and increases testosterone levels.  Tango dance lessons can be a form of couple’s therapy, enhancing the relationship through subtle physical, spiritual and emotional communication between partners that tango gives.  The most valuable benefits of the Tango Argentinian Dance lessons are improved health and wellbeing, increased closeness shared by couples, and a broadened social exposure.  When students dance the tango, they relax, lose weight, improve strength, and increase longevity.

During the first lesson during the Couple’s Week, Dr. Victor will provide a colorful historical background during the lessons, and explain how Tango evolved in the late 1800s.
