The am Meer Duo, featuring pianist Ashley Zhang and saxophonist Andrew Steinberg, is reimagining instrumental repertoire in the twenty-first century. With a cosmopolitan taste that blends contemporary compositions with cornerstones of the past, the duo has performed recitals across the globe and premiered over a dozen works. Since its founding in 2016, am Meer’s pioneering efforts for new music have brought them to China, Russia, Switzerland, Hong Kong, and throughout the United States to premiere major works by Vinko Globokar, Hayes Biggs, Ursula Mamlok, Hans Kox, Eric Moe, Tera de Marez Oyens, Steven Stucky, and John Worley. Most recently, am Meer performed at the Summer Institute of Contemporary Performance Practice (Boston, MA) and Los Angeles City College. Alongside performance activities, the duo is active in education, presenting master classes and lectures at Lehigh University, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Singapore), the North American Saxophone Alliance, Memorial University of Newfoundland, and Georgia State University. Upcoming engagements include performances and outreach activities in San Diego, New York, Paris, and London.
