Wild and Precious Life: Women Living With & Beyond Breast Cancer

Week of December 7, 2019

Breast cancer matters for every woman because 1 out of every 8 women are affected during her lifetime. Breast cancer is the highest cause of death for women under 50. The bad news is that we don’t know much about the cause of the disease and therefore too little about its prevention. The good news is that thanks to massive advances in the health sector, there can be complete healing with the available medical and complementary therapies in 70-80% of all cases and a longer disease-free lifespan in the whole population. And by integrating well-being lifestyle changes and small steps we can increase our vitality and quality of life, so that no matter what our situation, we can live a wild and precious life now.

Ulrike Schöneck, born 1958, is a dedicated women’s doctor and Gynecologist since 1983. She worked for 10 years in a large urban hospital. Since then she has dedicated her work to a private all-women group practice in Berlin. She focuses mainly on early detection, ultrasound, and medical support, guidance and counseling after primary clinical cancer treatments (operation, radiation & chemo) in hospital. She has accompanied many hundreds of women through the maze and wonder of living through and with breast cancer. She is specialized in women’s health issue and also certified in psychosomatic health. Her long-term personal work in Qi Gong, expressive movement and meditation also inform her approach significantly as an integrative doctor in Germany where the recovery from cancer is the highest in Europe.

Katheryn Trenshaw, the founder and creative director of the Passionate Presence Center for Creative Expression, is an inspiratrice and evocateur of presence and possibility. Her most recent three-year adventure, Facing Death: a Radical Well-Being Sabbatical, addresses overcoming advanced breast cancer and realizing more than ever how precious and juicy life is. This more persistently informs, underpins and enhances every single moment and all of the work and depth of presence that Katheryn offers. Katheryn belongs to the club no one wants to become a member of and has inadvertently done a “Masters degree” in and become an outspoken force for living well with cancer and an advocate for radical well-being.

Katheryn is an international artist, speaker, author, and radical well-being advocate who has offered, for over 35 years, training and facilitation in movement, art, and personal development particularly focused on awakening as Embodied Consciousness. She conducts educational events, workshops, multimedia projects and undertakes consulting for individuals, groups, and organizations in the United States, Europe and around the world.

Some of her projects include The multimedia In Your Own Skin Project with a new book available from Amazon. The 10-year tour of the Breaking the Silence Project offers healing through illustrated talks, mask-making and workshops, and includes an upcoming book.
