Rosemary Loofah Salt Glow

One of the most fun words in any spa has to be loofah (loo-fuh). This all-natural scrubber comes from the loofah plant, a cousin of the cucumber. They can be eaten when young and tender, but once they ripen, they become very fibrous and are mildly rough, somewhere between a soft sponge and a brillo pad on an abrasion scale. But, in the hands of a good masseuse, they become tools of beauty, exfoliation, circulation, and a tool for smooth and fresh feeling skin.

Like a lot of good things in life, this treatment started with me face down on a massage table. The masseuse gently scrubbed the bottom of my feet with the loofah and then worked into long gentle strokes up my legs and on up my back. This technique is sometimes called dry brushing and the masseuse told me this would exfoliate my skin and help increase circulation. With this first step over, my skin was already feeling smooth.

Once exfoliated, I was ready for the rosemary salt body scrub. The simple blend of sea salt, organic oatmeal, rosemary leaves, and oil was warm and scruffy and reminded me of being a kid at the beach. I used to sit in the shallow pools of water that collect on the shoreline, warming in the sun and spread the sand across my legs. It took me back to that happy place in my mind. Again, the masseuse started at my feet and spread the memory-inducing mixture up my body before flipping me over and repeating.

Once covered with the scrub, there are two ways the masseuse offered to remove it. The first way was to have the masseuse towel me clean. She offered to slowly wipe away the salt and dry me with a warm towel. The second way, which I preferred, is to use the shower in the room. The shower is quicker than the towel method and would leave me with more time for a massage with hydrating rosemary lotion.

When I walked across The Ranch after my treatment, it felt like I could feel every pore of my skin; I felt very energized and alive. I can see why this is one of the more popular treatments at The Ranch. It’s also the perfect start to a fantastic week.

I’m in love with this scrub. It’s easy to create your own Ranch spa experience and make the Rosemary Loofah Salt Glow mixture at home.
