Detox Bath Soak Recipe

Let stress and tension float away in a deeply detoxifying bath.

Dawn Petter, Ranch Presenter, Clinical Herbalist, and Flower Essence Practitioner, is a master at creating healing recipes that ease the heart and body. Her detox bath soak recipe below helps relax muscles, softens skin, and reduces stress and inflammation. Dawn explains, “The skin is one of our many access points for therapeutic medicines. Warm bath water opens the pores so the herbs, salts and clay can do their work.”

Each ingredient in this detoxifying bath has numerous benefits. Here are just a few healing properties associated with them:

  • Clay has been shown to stimulate the lymphatic system and to support the body in releasing accumulated heavy metals. It can be truly effective when used as part of a regular bathing plan.
  • Calendula, like clay, can stimulate the lymphatic system.
  • Ginger can increase circulation, lower inflammation, reduce pain, support digestion, lower fevers (especially in a warm bath), and potentially improve metabolism.
  • Lavender is traditionally used to relax the mind, detoxify. It is known to be anti-bacterial and can reduce swelling, skin irritations and burns.
  • Chamomile is recognized to invoke calm, help stressed-out skin, soothe inflammation and fight free radical damage. This lymphatic herb is used for skin irritations, eczema, psoriasis, and so much more.
  • Mineral salts are known topurify and detoxify.


1 cup dead sea salts

1 cup Epsom salts

½ cup baking soda

2-4 tablespoon bentonite clay (optional)

1 cup of calendula flowers (calendula officinalis)

¼ cup of lavender (lavandula angustifolia)

1/4 cup of chamomile (chamomilla matricaria)

1 tablespoon powdered ginger or 1/4 cup grated fresh ginger (Zingiber officinale)

5 drops of rosemary essential oil

5 drops of lavender essential oil

4 drops of Juniper essential oil

1/2 gallon boiling water


Steep the herbs in ½ gallon of boiled water for 4-6 hours in a covered pot.

Whisk the bentonite clay into a quart of warmed water until all the lumps have dissipated. This might take a while!

Once the clay is fully amalgamated, mix it with the strained tea and add the liquid to a pre-filled bath.

Next, blend the dead sea and Epsom salts together (do not add baking soda to the salts or they will clump). Sprinkle the essential oils into salts and stir into the bath until dissolved. Finally, sprinkle the baking soda into the bath. Once everything is dissolved, soak in the bath for 20 minutes. Make sure you are hydrated and that the water is not too hot. Enjoy this bath 2-3 times a week to reap the optimum benefits. Be sure to soak up every moment of this incredible experience!
