We Belong Together: Peas and Avocados

Peas and avocados might not be the first combination that comes to mind, but from a nutrition standpoint, they make a lot of sense together.

Avocado brings richness, a silky texture, and healthy fat, mainly monounsaturated fat, the kind often emphasized in heart-healthy eating patterns. It also provides fiber and potassium. Because avocado is naturally very low in sugar, its glycemic impact is expected to be lower than that of starchier foods. All of this helps explain why avocado feels so satisfying: it gives dishes body, creaminess, and staying power without relying on starch or added sugar.

Peas offer something different. They are lighter, naturally sweet, and rich in plant-based nutrients, including fiber, protein, folate, and B vitamins. While avocado gives a dish its creamy richness, peas add brightness, structure, and a little lift. Swapping peas for some of the avocado also lowers the overall fat and calorie density while keeping the smooth texture people love.

Together, peas and avocado balance each other beautifully. Avocado brings healthy fat and luxurious texture, while peas add fiber, plant protein, and a fresh green note. One makes the dish feel rich; the other keeps it light and nourishing. Blended together, they create something unique: creamy but not heavy, satisfying yet still bright, familiar but with a twist.

That is the idea behind our Aztec Guacamole at The Ranch. It keeps the craveable heart of guacamole — avocado, lime, chile, cilantro, and that unmistakable creamy pull — but folds in crushed peas for a greener, lighter take. The result is not a compromise. It is a quiet upgrade: two simple plants working together to make one better bowl.

This is the kind of small, thoughtful change we love making here at Rancho La Puerta.

We believe in whirled peas. Make our famous Aztec Guacamole which uses peas and Avocados.
