This presentation highlights an array of practical strategies for increasing metabolic efficiency and promoting weight loss and sustainable healthy weight maintenance.

RLP Clinical Fitness Assessment – by appointment
Appointment availability and Sign-ups for your Clinical Fitness Assessment can be found in the Main Lounge or contact Concierge to connect with Jody Miller directly.

Cardiorespiratory Fitness (CRF) sheds light on how well you can perform in a variety of physical activities and how well you are able to burn the calories you consume. CRF is related to weight management, functional capacity, athletic performance, and metabolic efficiency, and is the strongest predictor of all-cause and disease-specific mortality.

Your Clinical Fitness Assessment with Clinical Exercise Physiologist, Jody Miller, includes two 30-minute sessions during you week at the Ranch and one 30-minute session virtually as a follow up to your Ranch visit.

1. During session one, Body Composition and Aerobic Capacity are assessed:

Body Composition is assessed using the skinfold caliper method with measures taken at several sites on the body (thigh, triceps, subscapular, supra-iliac and abdomen).

Aerobic Capacity (METS) is assessed using a sub-maximal cycling protocol. Guests ride a Schwinn AirDyne to a predetermined target heart rate. Heart rate and blood pressure are monitored.

2. During session two, a summary of your results and personalized nutrition and exercise recommendations will be provided.

3. During session three, nutrition coaching and exercise training is provided to support guests in implementing strategies into daily life!

Clinical Fitness Assessment package – $425.00 *plus tax

Nourishing Your Health with Integrative Medicine

Nourishing Your Health by Living Green
Modern life exposes us to chemicals that may be subtly or profoundly impacting our health. We absorb toxins in the food we eat, the beverages we drink, the products we put on our skin, and the cleansers we use in and around our homes. Mounting evidence links environmental toxins to developmental disorders, obesity, heart disease, and cancer. Dr. Victoria Maizes addresses the evidence for harm, practical steps we can all take to reduce exposures, and the multitude of resources that can help nourish our own health and that of future generations.

Heal Faster: Apply the Principles of Integrative Medicine to Bounce Back Faster from Illness and Surgery
Given the incredible advances of modern medicine, it is surprising that its focus is more often on managing chronic disease, than on reversing it. Increasing numbers of adults find themselves with several diagnoses for which they take multiple medications. Dr Victoria Maizes will present the principles of Integrative Medicine that help people reverse or recover from common chronic illnesses and get over short-term illnesses more rapidly. She will highlight a range of evidence-based strategies including circadian medicine, time restricted eating, restorative sleep, nurturing the microbiome, and quieting the nervous system to help speed up healing and recovery.

Vibrantly Healthy Women
Questions about women’s health and well-being frequently arise in an integrative health practice. Whether it is concern about changes coinciding with menopause, hormones, sexuality, healthy bones, or weight loss, Dr. Victoria Maizes, an internationally recognized women’s health expert will address the science that supports women in their efforts to live vibrantly healthy lives.

Victoria Maizes, MD, is an internationally recognized leader, change agent, and innovator in the field of integrative medicine. As the Founding Executive Director of the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona—where she also serves as a Professor of Medicine and Public Health—she has dedicated her professional life to transforming health care by educating physicians and empowering individuals to live healthier lives.  Dr. Maizes stewarded the growth of the Program in Integrative Medicine from a small organization that trained four doctors each year into a world-renowned Center of Excellence. Under her leadership, the Center developed premier national and international educational programs that now train more than 1,000 doctors, nurses, medical students, residents and other health professionals annually. These integratively trained clinicians provide care to millions of people worldwide. Named one of the world’s “25 Intelligent Optimists” by ODE Magazine, Dr. Maizes is a highly sought-after speaker and the co-host of the acclaimed podcast Body of Wonder with Dr. Andrew Weil. Dr Maizes has received many honors and awards including the Inaugural Andrew Weil Endowed Chair in Integrative Medicine, the Bravewell Distinguished Service Award, and the Integrative Healthcare Symposium Leadership Award.  Dr. Maizes wrote Heal Faster: Unlock Your Body’s Rapid Recovery Reflex, to provide the tools for people to reclaim their health. She is also the editor of the Oxford University Press textbook Integrative Women’s Health and the author of Be Fruitful: The Essential Guide to Maximizing Fertility and Giving Birth to a Healthy Child.  A summa cum laude graduate of Barnard College, Dr. Maizes received her medical degree from the University of California San Francisco Medical School, completed her Family Medicine residency at the University of Missouri, and her Integrative Medicine Fellowship at the University of Arizona. Gyrokinesis with Diane Daniel

Gyrokinesis is a complete movement system, for all levels and ages, and can be applied to a variety of situations, as one needs very little equipment. It incorporates many key principles from yoga, dance, gymnastics and Tai Chi. The class begins with the practitioner seated on a low stool, utilizing self-massage and simple breathing patterns to awaken the body. He or she mobilizes the spine through a series of arching, curling and spiraling movements. The corresponding breathing patterns in every movement help to stimulate the nervous system and open up energy pathways.

Diane Daniel trained as a classical dancer at the Hammond School in the UK. She spent over fifteen years as a professional dancer in Israel (The Israel Ballet) and Germany (Ballet Krefeld-Mönchengladbach, Tanztheater Heidelberg, Tanztheater Munster, and Tanztheater Freiburg). She is a certified Pilates, Gyrotonic & Grokinesis instructor.

Diane has worked with Alan Herdman at one of London’s most reputable Pilates studios. She also studied with Juliu Horvath in Germany for her Gyrotonic certification. She is a Pre-trainer in the Gyrotonic system and continues her education in Seattle with master trainer Karen Mullen.

Diane had her own private studio in Vancouver for over 20 years and now spends her time between Merida in Mexico and Vancouver.

Tales of Laughter and Healing, Wisdom and Wonder with Joel ben Izzy

Tales of Laughter and Healing, Wisdom and Wonder
As spring arrives at the Ranch, there’s no better way to open the heart and soul than by gathering before a crackling fire for a magical evening of stories – and that’s how we’ll be starting our week, around the beautiful fireplace in Oaktree.

Master storyteller and Ranch favorite Joel ben Izzy will welcome guests with tales he’s collected in his over four decades of travels from around, woven together with stories from his own life, and some Ranch lore as well. While there’s no telling just what tales he’ll be spinning, you can be sure they’ll leave you laughing, give you plenty to ponder, and that you’ll feel better when you walk out than when you came in – a great way to kick off your week at the Ranch.

“Going to the Well” – a Four-Part Storytelling Workshop

Each of us has already lived a life overflowing with stories – tales of people we’ve known, places we’ve been, music that’s moved us, animals we have loved, and so much more. It’s the good stuff, and each of us has filled a well inside filled with it. The challenge in our busy lives is to find the time and place to return to that well. Well, this week is the time and Rancho La Puerta is the place. Through fun, low-key exercises, Joel will help us dip into that well to bring up stories we did not know we knew, while teaching techniques to tell them.

Note that while we will be telling stories, this class is not about “performing.” Rather, the focus is on discovering and sharing your stories in a way that is natural and comfortable.

The four classes each build on one another to make a complete course, so please plan to attend all four if you can. That said, if you’ll need to miss some, or even if you can only come to one or two, you are welcome.

We’ll explore a different theme each day:
– Tales of People We’ve Known
– Tales of Places We’ve Been
– Tales of Moments of Awe
– Tales to for the Journey Back Home

Over the past four decades, Joel ben Izzy has traveled the world, gathering and telling stories in some 36 countries on five continents. His tales are filled with laughter, bringing to life themes of finding light within the darkness. His award-winning memoir The Beggar King and The Secret of Happiness (Algonquin, 2003) has now been translated into 18 languages. Joel, who is one of the nation’s leading story coaches, lives in Berkeley, California. “It’s hard to convey the infectious quality of a good storyteller, but whatever it is, Joel ben Izzy’s got it.” – The Washington Post. Pilates with Sarah Bertucelli

Fundamental Pilates Mat
Step into a supportive and welcoming space where movement becomes a pathway to awareness, healing, and strength. This foundational mat class is thoughtfully designed for those new to Pilates, individuals navigating injury, and seasoned practitioners who wish to return to the essentials with fresh insight.

With a gentle yet purposeful approach, the class emphasizes breath, alignment, and mindful movement, allowing each participant to work at their own pace. Rooted in the principles of Joseph Pilates, each session unfolds progressively, offering opportunities to build strength, restore balance, and deepen your connection to your body.

Come as you are—this is a space for exploration, learning, and transformation, where even the simplest movements can lead to profound change.

Intermediate / Advanced Pilates Mat
Experience Pilates as a moving meditation—where strength meets grace and precision evolves into flow. Designed for the seasoned practitioner, this class builds on the timeless work of Joseph Pilates, inviting you to explore the seamless connection between breath, movement, and expression.

Sequences are thoughtfully woven to challenge the body while encouraging fluidity, rhythm, and control. With an emphasis on transitions and continuity, the practice becomes less about individual exercises and more about the art of movement itself.

Inspired by the nurturing environment of Rancho La Puerta, this class offers space to refine your practice, expand your awareness, and move with both intention and elegance.

Workshop 1:Breath is Life
Explore the quiet intelligence of your breath in this focused Pilates workshop devoted to ribcage awareness and positioning. Through guided movement and mindful inquiry, you’ll discover how the placement of the ribs influences not only your breathing patterns, but also your posture, stability, and ease of motion.

With a gentle, progressive approach, we’ll refine the relationship between breath, core support, and alignment—inviting greater spaciousness without tension, and strength without rigidity. This practice offers a deeper understanding of how to move with efficiency and grace, supporting both your Pilates work and daily life.

Appropriate for all levels, this workshop is especially valuable for those seeking to reconnect with foundational principles and cultivate a more integrated, responsive body.

Workshop 2: Shoulder Function
Discover the dynamic relationship between your shoulders and the foundation that supports them in this thoughtful Pilates workshop. When the ribs serve as a steady, responsive “house,” the shoulders are free to rest and move like a balanced “roof”—light, supported, and with unnecessary strain.

Through precise, guided movement, we’ll explore how ribcage placement influences shoulder mobility, stability, and ease. You’ll learn to release excess tension, organize the upper body with clarity, and cultivate strength that feels both grounded and expansive.

Ideal for all levels, this workshop offers a refined understanding of shoulder function, helping you move with greater freedom, resilience, and grace in both your Pilates practice and everyday life.

With a passion for holistic wellness and a deep understanding of the body-mind connection, Sarah Bertucelli is dedicated to transforming lives through the art of movement. Matters That Matter® Standing At The Threshold: An Invitation to Transformation

Transformation is what happens when we allow ourselves to learn from and be changed by our experience. As we step into a new year we stand at a threshold, that space between what has been and what could be. Every threshold is an invitation to new awareness, growth, and transformation.

Join Molly Davis & Kristine Patterson for an inspiring and engaging week of reflection, exploration, and imagination. A time to take stock of where we’ve been, where we are, and where life might be calling us.

The Ranch offers that kind of rare spaciousness that makes room for slow wanderings and quiet wonderings, leaving guests refreshed, renewed, and ready to step out with more clarity, courage, and grace. Every Matters That Matter® session is designed to serve and enhance that renewal process.

Evening Program

Threshold Moments
There are such things as “threshold moments”. Those times when we are invited to step over fear and uncertainty and venture out into the unknown. Such moments invite us to be curious, and they call upon our courage. When we accept the invitation, we find our way to an even more authentic and full-hearted life. Come listen, reflect, and consider your own threshold moments…past, present, and future.

Workshop #1: Standing At The Threshold

If transformation is what happens when we are changed by our experience, then taking the next right step begins with a right understanding of where we’ve been and where we are now. Our lives don’t happen by accident. We participate in creating them every day and one step at a time. Join Molly & Kristine as they create a safe space for you to engage in some courageous thinking and thoughtful action planning.

Workshop #2: Discernment: The Practice of Choosing Wisely
Regardless of life chapter or circumstance, we can all be inundated with decisions, responsibilities, challenges, opportunities, and possibilities. Where to invest our time, energy, money, skills, and gifts? Where, how, and to whom do we offer what we have to give? This workshop introduces you to a practical discernment framework that will help you choose wisely.

Workshop #3: The 3×5 Card
Transformation often invites us to speak up in new ways. We can find ourselves in situations that test our ability to hold onto ourselves, say what we mean and mean what we say. Come discover how a small 3×5 card can become a mighty tool to help you communicate in a way that better reflects who you are and what matters to you.

Molly L Davis

Connector + Writer + Speaker.

“CONNECTING is my way of moving through the world, always on the lookout for ways to create deeper connections. With ourselves, one another, the Sacred, and the world around us. Connecting who we are with how we live is how it is meant to be.”

Molly is the author of the award winning BLUSH: Women & Wine, a book in which she explores why she often used wine as a classy looking way to cope with stress, dull pain, and avoid discomfort, and why others might do the same. And yes, she still loves good wine. The founder of Trailhead Coaching &Consulting, she helps people courageously step more fully into their own lives.

Kristine Patterson

Potter + Maker + Storyteller

“I HAVE COME TO UNDERSTAND that the beauty of pottery lies in its imperfections. The subtle variations and ridges in the glaze, the unique shapes born from a spontaneous touch of the hand – these are the elements that give my work character and authenticity. Each day as I step into my studio a sense of reverence washes over me.”

A few years ago, Kristine launched beanpole pottery in a quiet studio in her backyard. What started out as a hobby and way to process life, became a full-time business. She now ships her gorgeous, custom work all over the world. Each piece has a soul that, like ours, is perfect in its imperfection.

Kristine and Molly are the founders of Matters That Matter®, a partnership dedicated to inspiring people to live according to what matters most. Their powerful message has been heard at national conventions, annual fundraisers, and spirituality and wellness retreats. They co-authored the book Letters to Our Daughters. A collection of 44 letters from women around the world to their daughters, it illustrates the common threads that connect us in spite of our differences. Translated into three languages, this beautiful book was featured on the Oprah Show.

They’ve been best friends for almost 50 years.

Myofascial Release, Centering Alignment & Corrective Exercise Connection with Laura Gideon

For decades there has been an epidemic rise in the number of people suffering from common musculoskeletal imbalances that are not caused by an injury. These imbalances are caused by other factors, such as movement dysfunction, activity choices, prolonged static postures, footwear choices, surgeries and sedentary lifestyles. Many with common musculoskeletal imbalances do not need physical therapy, whereby corrective exercise is evolving to fill the gap in care. The use of musculoskeletal assessments, self-myofascial release, restorative stretching, and corrective strengthening exercises in health and fitness settings is fast becoming commonplace to help remedy and relieve muscle & joint discomfort and pain.

As a Corrective Exercise Specialist Laura’s skill set is focused on addressing the body as a whole and identifying underlying causes of chronic pain not just the symptoms and help prevent the body from breaking down in the future. A sequenced method of structural assessments, myofascial release techniques, stretching, body centering and corrective exercises are applied. The benefits of this training can result in not only the elimination of pain, but lead to a reduction in stress and improvement in active performance and functional daily living.

Beginning on Sunday and throughout the week each class will incorporate movement and usable information. We will focus on different zones of the body using several of the techniques mentioned above in order to give participants more structural awareness, pain alleviating “hacks”, and corrective exercises to be able to easily replicate at home. Friday’s class will wrap everything up, ending your week with an energized feeling, full of vitality – moving more functionally and feeling GREAT!

Wednesday – Focus is on:
Mid back, Shoulders, Chest, Ribcage

Neck, Head, Arms, Hands

Friday – Focus is on:
Full Body (putting it all together), Overall Restoration, Fascia in Motion movement.

Posture muscles help to fix or stabilize a joint; they prevent movement, while other muscles create movement. They are composed of muscle fibers that have a particular capacity for prolonged work. For instance, as a person leans forward slightly to walk up a flight of stairs (the movement), the posture muscles surrounding the spine help to prevent the upper body from falling too far forward (they help keep the body upright).

There are three natural curves in a healthy vertebral spine
. The low back (lumbar spine) curves inward (toward the anterior part of the body) and is referred to as a lordotic curve. The middle back (thoracic spine) is curved outward (posterior to the body) referred to as a Kyphotic curve. The neck (cervical spine) curves slightly forward and thus have a lordotic curve.

The term “Neutral Spine” usually refers to the lumbar region. Neutral spine is a pain-free position of the lumbar spine attained when the pressures in and around the pelvis joint structures are evenly distributed. The pelvis is balanced between its anterior and posterior positions.

Good posture—when you are standing:

Is the straight vertical alignment of your body from the top of your head, through your body’s center, to the bottom of your feet. The feet should be relaxed with the body’s weight resting on three points: the heel, the base of the big toe, and the little toe.

There are five principles of posture and movement that outline the ways our bodies work:
Posture Principle 1 – Movement. Your body is designed to move and stay moving. …
Posture Principle 2 – Balance. …
Posture Principle 3 – Movement Patterns. …
Posture Principle 4 – Compensation. …
Posture Principle 5 – Adaptation.

Fascia Loves
1. Hydration (think a sponge)
2. Movement (think water transportation)
3. Touch (think floorwork, massage, soft foam rollers)
4. Slow Stretch (think cats)
5. Bouncing (think jumping, dancing, running)

Fascia Hates
1. Static positions (sitting, slouching)
2. Repetitions (one-sided work or workouts)
3. Too quick stretches (it’s slower than muscles)
4. Too deep stretches (it can break)
5. STRESS (it’s one of our richest sensory organs)

The Art of Connection: Assertive, Clear, and Confident With Denise Dudley

The Art of Connection: Assertive, Clear, and Confident
Practical communication skills for real-life success

Session 1: The signals that shape your style: Mastering the elements of expression
How do people see you when you walk into a room, introduce yourself, or begin speaking? Whether you realize it or not, you’re sending signals all the time—through your voice, expressions, posture, and more. In this session, we’ll explore the key communication components that shape your personal style and discover how small adjustments can make a big difference. You’ll leave with quick, practical tips to project confidence, warmth, and authenticity, right from the very first impression.

Session 2: Passive, aggressive, or assertive? The Goldilocks guide to finding your “just-right” voice
We all have a default response style. Sometimes we hold back (passive), sometimes we push too hard (aggressive), and sometimes we strike the perfect balance (assertive). In this session, we’ll take a look at how these three styles show up in everyday interactions and how they affect our relationships at work and at home. You’ll learn to identify your own patterns, recognize the styles of others, and you’ll walk away with practical tools to shift toward assertiveness: the style that allows you to speak up clearly while still respecting the rights of others.

Session 3: Talk so people listen; listen so people talk: conversations that truly connect
Speaking and listening go hand in hand—you can’t have one without the other. In this session, we’ll focus on balancing both sides of communication: speaking with clarity and listening with intention. You’ll learn straightforward strategies for expressing yourself clearly, along with techniques for truly tuning in to others. We’ll cover how to set aside distractions, stay present in the moment, and respond in ways that show understanding. By practicing both sides of the communication equation, you’ll build the skills that create smoother conversations and stronger relationships.

Session 4: Less drama, more dialogue: Keeping cool when tensions rise, and turning conflict into connection
No matter how hard we try, conflict is an unavoidable part of life—but it doesn’t have to damage your relationships. In this session, we’ll explore practical tools for addressing disagreements in ways that are calm, constructive, and solution focused. You’ll learn how to disarm defensiveness, reduce tension, and turn conflict into an opportunity for better understanding. You’ll leave with practical techniques for keeping conflicts under control and guiding conversations toward positive resolution.

Hi! I’m Denise Dudley, and my life’s work has been helping people build stronger connections—whether that means finding their voice, leading with confidence, or creating more satisfying personal and professional relationships.

I began my career in clinical psychology, as the director of clinical services and training of a large corporation of psychiatric hospitals, and over time I’ve expanded my focus into communication coaching, professional training, and keynote speaking. I’m the founder of SkillPath Seminars, which grew into the largest public training company in the world, training more than 12 million people worldwide. Along the way, I’ve been honored to speak on university campuses across the US, provide continuing education for medical professionals in both the US and Canada, and work with organizations of every size.

I hold a PhD in behavioral psychology, as well as licenses in hospital administration, administrator preceptorship, and continuing education training. I’m also a certified AIDS educator and a licensed field therapist for individuals with agoraphobia. In addition, I’ve written extensively, including my latest book, Work It! Get In, Get Noticed, Get Promoted, now in its third printing and used on college campuses as a career-search textbook.

Whether I’m teaching about assertiveness, management, leadership, career readiness, or communication skills, my goal is always the same: to give people practical, science-based tools to use in everyday life—and to do it with warmth, humor, and energy.
