Elena Duran Flute Concert

Dear Friends of the Ranch

I have been returning to the Ranch for more than thirty years now and my trips to Tecate are always a highlight of our year when I return with Michael to play for the guests and, whenever possible, for the staff, too. I am especially looking forward to returning in the week of 29 August to play a very small part in this eightieth celebration year.

From the beginning and over the years Deborah and her team have fought against the odds and the present pandemic is just another hurdle which for sure Deborah, Sarah, Roberto and all the administration and staff will overcome to keep this piece of heaven-on-earth alive and thriving – I am looking forward to be there to celebrate the Ranch’s centenary in twenty years’ time!

The first time I played IMAGINE in concert was quite special. It was in 1985 and I was invited to play in a Royal Gala of music devoted to The Beatles in the Royal Albert Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Choral Society, conducted by Louis Clarke. The concert took place in the presence of HM The Queen and the entire Royal Family including the Prince of Wales and Princess Diana as well as Paul and Linda McCartney. My dad was also there, the first time he had ever seen me in concert! We played IMAGINE with the words narrated by Joan Collins. The concert was broadcast by BBC TV and was repeated every Christmas for the next few years.

I have played it many times since then but this year marks John Lennon’s eightieth birthday and also, sadly, the fortieth anniversary of his assassination and I am looking forward to playing it live at the Ranch at the end of August and then touring my IMAGINE program during the Fall.

In the meantime, even in these trying times we can create new memories that will drive us forward and upwards towards our dreams and goals.

With love to you all,
Elena
