We’re excited to share eight books from guest presenters that will help you prepare for tonight’s meal or tomorrow’s life-changing decisions. Some of these are available at the Szekely Library when you visit. Or, you can purchase these gems at your favorite local bookshop. All are entertaining and enlightening.

The Latin Table: Easy, Flavorful Recipes from Mexico, Puerto Rico and Beyond. In this great collection of recipes, Isabel Cruz shows us that Latin food doesn’t need to be complicated and can be healthy. These recipes are influenced by her family’s meals and what she creates at her popular restaurants. She gives a fun Asian twist to the recipes and a guide for stocking your pantry is included. Isabel taught at The Ranch the week of August 11 – 17. ¡Buen Provecho!

Diáne Mandle takes us deep into sound healing with an interesting overview of the history and practices of this healing modality. Discover the whys and hows of sound therapy while these healing vibrations take you to a new level of relaxation. Diáne will be with us the week of November 3 -9, 2018.




Let’s Cook Spanish, A Family Cookbook: Vamos a Cocinar Espanol, Recetas Para Toda la Familia by Gabriella Llamas. In this fun and easy to follow cookbook, the recipes are in both Spanish and English. Chef Llamas crafts mealtimes to be a family event that includes everyone can help prepare these classic, healthy recipes. Learn to cook some of Spain’s most favored dishes and learn Spanish también. Chef Llamas will be at The Ranch November 10 -16 2018.




Fear of Dying: A Novel. Erica Jong explores a life of purpose and meaning through her aging character, Vanessa Wonderman, in this witty and tender novel. Twentysomething Isadora, from Jong’s Fear of Flying, is older now and has a role as a wise guide.  Enjoy the journey with sixtysomething Vanessa as she explores sex, adventures, and relationships…and more sex.  Erica Jong will be at Rancho La Puerta the week of November 10 – 16.





King Solomon’s Table: A Culinary Exploration of Jewish Cooking from Around the World. Joan Nathan researched the Jewish diaspora from kitchens to dining tables as she traveled the globe exploring and documenting Jewish cooking. She opens a pantry full of history, spices, and cultural influences that make their way into the roughly 170 masterfully crafted and shared recipes. This is Joan’s 11th cookbook, and she will teach at La Cocina Que Canta December 22 – 28, 2018.
