Sustainability Without Compromise
Long before sustainability and stewardship become the bywords to live by Rancho La Puerta began setting the standard for socially and environmentally conscious practices.
- Leaders in Sustainability: Since 1940, Rancho La Puerta has set the standard for socially and environmentally conscious practices, integrating sustainability into its DNA.
- Regenerative Agriculture: Pioneers since 1940 with the creation of North America’s first intentional organic garden.
- Pioneers in Vegetarian Spa Cuisine: Farm-to-table since 1985 with organic produce from Rancho Tres Estrellas.
- Recycling and Composting: Reducing waste through composting food scraps and promoting reuse across all departments.
- Safe and Healthy Environment: Chemical-free maintenance of gardens and environmentally friendly cleaning practices.
- Local Sourcing and Green Building: Built with locally sourced materials and sustainable construction techniques.
- Water and Wastewater Management: Innovative wastewater treatment system turning sewage into clean water, energy, and compost, set to be completed by 2025.
- Land Use and Biodiversity: 3,000 acres preserved as a nature reserve, home to diverse native flora and fauna.
- Dark Sky Practices: Lighting designed according to Dark Sky International Guidelines to protect nocturnal wildlife and preserve night sky views.
The Ranch’s approach to sustainability is perhaps best described by the spa’s motto “Siempre Mejor” or “Always Better.” Some actions, like using natural cleansers and refillable water bottles, draw on tradition and common sense; but others, such as installing composting toilets or switching to compact fluorescent light bulbs, take advantage of new technology. Ranch employees are proud that they are able to offer the highest quality accommodations while continually striving to reduce the spa’s environmental impact.
