We invite health care professionals to reconnect with your joy and meaning during a five day, four night retreat at the Rancho La Puerta wellness resort and spa.

Tucked away in a fertile valley at the base of Mount Kuchumaa, Rancho La Puerta provides an idyllic setting to pause, breathe, and reflect on who you are and who you want to be in the world as a healer and human being.  Your hosts Gyll Turteltaub, Psy.D., and John Chuck, M.D., bring decades of clinical, teaching, and leadership experience in the health care arena to a series of interactive workshops that will help you revisit and refresh your values and purpose, and develop a game plan for how to live your best life.  Topics will include gratitude; mindfulness; nurturing your social, emotional, and spiritual relationships; and positive adaptations to the stress and tension inherent in you high stress, high stakes careers. Our curriculum for healthcare professionals dovetails nicely with the Ranch’s comprehensive wellness offerings which include:  delicious plant-forward cuisine featuring fresh produce grown on the property; a wide variety of activities such as hikes and trail runs, tennis, spin class, salsa dancing, pilates, yoga, sculpting, and jewelry making; complete spa services; and a rotating faculty of guest presenters who speak on a wide variety of wellness topics.

About your hosts:
Gyll Turteltaub, Psy.D., is a clinical psychologist and the Regional Director of Employee Engagement and Resilience for The Permanente Medical Group.
John Chuck, M.D., is a family physician and wellness consultant for health care professionals.  He was formerly the Regional Chairperson of the Physician Health and Wellness Leaders Group for The Permanente Medical Group.

Saturday to Wednesday, July 10-14, 2021 (5 days/4 nights)
Cost:
$2,705-$3,478/person includes the joy and meaning curriculum, lodging, meals (including accommodations for numerous food preferences), snacks, hikes, classes, taxes and a complimentary health spa massage.  Click here for an overview of the casitas and click here for more information about specific accommodation levels and prices which range from single occupancy to four guests sharing a two bedroom casitas.

Location:
Rancho La Puerta is located in Tecate, Baja California, Mexico, 3.5 miles south of the U.S. Mexico border. Guests must have a valid U.S. passport.
Transportation:  a free shuttle picks you up at the San Diego Airport (SAN) and brings you to The Ranch.  Return shuttle service to SAN is $35.

Cancellation policy

Rates & Rooms

The rates are per-person and include all taxes, hikes, classes, presentations, meals, and snacks (and the complimentary massage). Transportation from the Ranch to SD Airport on Wednesday is $35. Saturday transportation from SD Airport to the Ranch is included.

Junior Villa

A casita featuring a large sitting area with a fireplace, an alcove with bed(s) – two double or one king – and a large private patio.

Villa Studio

A large studio featuring a living area, fireplace and writing desk along with private outdoor patio capable of accommodating up to three guests.

Villa Studio Triple $2,503, per person

Villa Suite

These feature two separate bedrooms and two bathrooms, as well as a living room, wet bar, dining area and fireplace. These are our most spacious villas, and are truly comparable to a small vacation home. They comfortably welcome up to four people.

Villa Suite $2,705, per person (4 guests sharing 2 bedrooms)

A $500 deposit per person is due at time of booking to guarantee registration. Full balance is due within 60 days of registration or within 60 days of start of Retreat, whichever comes first.

Spend a week at Rancho La Puerta, one of the world’s top destination spas—set on thousands of acres of wildlands and landscaped gardens in sunshiny Baja California. Customize an ideal routine to energize your body, calm your mind and lift your spirits. You’ll enjoy:

  • Guided hikes on 40 miles of mountain trails.
  • More than 50 daily fitness classes, including Pilates, Barre, TRX, circuit training, Hydro-Fit, yoga and Zumba.
  • Three farm-to-table meals, sourced from our organic garden and other local farms.
  • Eleven gyms, four pools, a running track, as well as tennis, Pickleball, basketball and volleyball courts.
  • Three full-service spas offering massage, facials, wraps, scrubs and other holistic therapies.
  • Meditation, Feldenkrais, sound healing and other mind-body activities.

Arriving at Rancho La Puerta

Please note: If you are arriving in San Diego on Friday and returning to the airport to catch one of our buses on Saturday, please choose Terminal 1.

Please find our Ranch representative waiting inside of the terminal directly in front of the Pacifica Breeze Café near baggage claim #4.

Our buses depart promptly at the time noted and cannot be held for those who arrive late.

PLEASE NOTE: Please call us at 858-925-1214 when you reach Campo Road/94 so we can meet you at the TC Worthy mini-mart on the U.S. side of the border. Parking in this lot is $5-$10/day and can be paid inside the mini-mart.

PLEASE NOTE: We recommend Mexican Auto Insurance when driving in Mexico. Please discuss this with your current insurance provider, as you may have coverage for a short distance across the border (we're only 3.3 miles in). Another option would be AAA or, just before you cross the border, there is a place that provides insurance, though it might be ideal to arrange for insurance in advance. In addition, you will need to be sure to take care of your visa ($30 in small bills) as you cross. If you prefer, you can drive directly to the Ranch and we will take you back to the border to help with this process.

Please allow 3 hours for transportation time to the airport plus additional time for checking in at the airport.
