Everyone Has a Story: Mindful Writing with the Five Senses With Caroline M. Grant
Everyone Has a Story
Caroline Grant was on track for a career as a college professor when her first child was born and abruptly changed her focus. Instead of writing literary analysis of novels and films, she began blogging (remember blogging?!) and writing personal essays to explore her new reality as a mother. In her evening presentation, Caroline will interweave personal stories with readings from her published work to demonstrate how, with mindful attention to small details, we can write our lives.
Workshop Descriptions
Everyone has a story, but what’s the best way to tell it? Do you start with your birth and tell a chronological story? How can you organize fifty, sixty, seventy or more (!) years of life and experience to tell a story that’s engaging, relatable, and readable? Using mindful writing techniques and focusing on our senses, we’ll identify key objects which illuminate moments in our lives. Each workshop will include a brief reading, guided meditation, free-writing time, and an optional opportunity to share your work. The sessions can be attended in sequence or individually.
Caroline Grant builds creative communities as a writer, editor, and teacher. She’s published essays in the New York Times, Washington Post, and other outlets, and has co-edited two anthologies, The Cassoulet Saved Our Marriage: True Tales of Food, Family, and How We Learn to Eat and Mama, PhD: Women Write About Motherhood and Academic Life. She was editor-in-chief of Literary Mama, and has taught writing at UC Berkeley, Stanford, and San Francisco Art Institute. Caroline is also co-founder, with her husband, of the Sustainable Arts Foundation, supporting writers and artists with children. They recently sunsetted SAF and returned its funds to indigenous communities.

The Wisdom You Carry: Create your own Wisdom-Keeper Book with Shiloh Sophia
The Wisdom You Carry ~ create your own Wisdom-Keeper Book
Each one of us is carrying deeply held wisdom in our bodies and our spirits from our life experiences. As we gather together this week at the Ranch in the spirit of wisdom keeping, we invite you to the innate awareness of the wisdom that is specific to your unique path and identity. Each day of our journey, you will be invited to articulate one of your innate wisdoms. We will be working with circle, sharing, meditation, writing and watercolor as each one of you creates a page of your Wisdom- Keeper Book. If you attend all sessions, you’ll have a complete book. If you only attend individual sessions, you will have an individual page each time which is a piece of watercolor paper with your wisdom. This will be fun and illuminating and no art experience needed whatsoever, this isn’t about painting pretty pictures. Join us to share in the spirit of wisdom keeping together. Imagine leaving a week at the Ranch with your own Book of Wisdom!
The Red Thread
Have you ever heard of the red thread? It’s a symbol across many cultures throughout the world that represents interconnection. As part of our Wisdom Keepers’ Week, we will gather together and learn about the four legends of the red thread inspired by a cross-cultural history of red thread that goes back to ancient stardust. You will be given the opportunity to participate in a red thread ceremony that has been practiced around the world. The red thread helps us see the common thread throughout time, bond with one another and claim our own piece of the red thread.
Together we are gifted lineage carrying wisdom keepers. Teacher and artist Shiloh Sophia, who wrote The Way of the Red Thread will be with us to guide us in this experience.
Curate Shiloh Sophia is the Matriarchal Founder of MUSEA Center for Intentional Creativity. We are home to an inter-generational and multicultural collective of emerging and experienced creatives, healers, and leaders. Our lineage, beginning in the 1930s, is the framework for our Path of Practice in the intentional arts of every medium. Our vision is awakening consciousness through self-expression, so that we might become collaborative stewards with all of creation. Shiloh Sophia describes this work as “an ancient futuristic spiritual path for the quickening times that offers healing, devoted practice, intentional community and purpose for our lives”. Her 30 year body of work has evolved into this path for seekers and finders with self-expression as the core form of devotion and the gateway to spiritual access through flow state. She is a teacher, artist, author and mystic, guiding tens of thousands of people in accessing their inner world to awaken embodied consciousness and identity through the ecstatic disciplines of the healing arts. She teaches classes and offers circles globally via livestream TV to viewers, on location at exotic destinations, and at the Mothership campus in Sonoma, California. The Intentional Creativity Foundation, 501 (c) 3, a museum and sanctuary, offers sacred space to our global membership. We gather weekly and are always emerging into the most potent versions of ourselves as individuals, community members and in the greater collective.
You can find her most mornings have tea with her Muse among the redwood trees and grapevines, looking to solve the mysteries of the universe with a paintbrush and provocative conversation. She is a prolific painter with collectors all over the world. She was taught by her two mothers to live life as a great adventure, and indeed she has, and she calls each of us forward into the power of unreasonable love for one another and all of creation! May Love Be At The Center of All Choices!
