Inner Fitness Program

DAY 1: Trusting Your Intuition
Unleash your potential in an enlightening session on trusting your intuition. We live in a world where logic and left-brain thinking reigns supreme, yet most of us have made decisions based on hunches or gut-feels where we can’t necessarily explain how we made these choices. Wouldn’t you like to live in a world that values both the logical and the intuitive? In this session we will learn about tapping into your innate abilities. Just as your remaining senses heighten when you lose one, intuition grows stronger when logic takes a step back. We all share these remarkable abilities; and emotions and bodily feeling are signals that reveal our inner states and information about the world around us. Learn to recognize when your intuition speaks.

DAY 2: What is Your “Why”?
I believe we each have special gifts that we are charged with bringing into the world.  These gifts are our “why”: why we were brought into this world, why we wake up in the morning and why the world needs these gifts.  So, what makes you special?   What are you good at doing?  What makes you proud?  What brings you joy?  We will explore our own individual purposes, by tapping into each era of our lives and noting what made us shine.  Rolling those special moments up, we will explore the themes that arise and make plans to bring our “why’s” into the world.

DAY 3: How to Get What You Want: Banish the “Yeah, Buts”
Change your thinking to get what you want and deserve.  So many times, we reach out to get what we want only to talk ourselves out of it later.  We stop ourselves because we fear standing out, or we believe our own negative self-talk.  We will explore this self-talk in a safe way, looking at how these ways of thinking served to keep us safe when we were younger. By re-writing the rules for a new era in your life you can begin to move confidently toward bringing your gifts into the world.

DAY 4: Anatomy of a Calling
Callings are often thought of as an exceptional skill in certain areas, but can also mean exceptional passion, even in an area in which we have little to no skill.  We each have a seed of a calling in us. Have you ever heard someone talking, or read a book, or worked with a group of people, and inexplicably felt such an urgency to learn or help more? We will explore “callings” and the idea that we were made for something big, and we will work together to see how we can bring some of our callings into our lives.

DAY 5: Your Ideal Day
So many times, we settle for less.  We decorate our homes to match someone else’s style, we work at boring jobs because they have good benefits, we socialize with people who don’t really “get” us, we eat food we don’t enjoy, and we spend time just pretending to care about things just because other people do.  In this class, I will take you on a group journey to discover your ideal day.  With no constraints, what would your ideal day include?  Would you wake up in Parisian pied-à-terre, or in a Brazilian tree-house?  Will you dress in flip-flops and a flowing skirt, or a tailored suit? Who is on the guest list for lunch? Maybe Oprah, Gandhi, extended family, or maybe just a quiet lunch with yourself? Get ready to play and dream big dreams! After our journey, we will note themes and explore ways to make these dreams into reality.

 

Dr. Kirsten Cameron is a psychologist, coach, and master hypnotherapist, and has developed and taught many captivating courses and retreats focusing on goal setting, mindfulness, intuition, energy management and thought-work.  Kirsten has worked in private therapeutic practice for over a decade, both in-person at her office and via video conference with personal and executive clients. Inner Fitness: Bigger, Better, Braver

Is there something you’d love to do but haven’t found the courage? Do you want to give yourself over to the fullest possible experience of living? Would you like a healthier relationship with yourself and others?

Bigger, Better, Braver is a five-step journey to find the answers, beginning with listening to the quiet voice inside the head that tells you, you want more for your life. Living big is truly its own reward. The “bigger” is your definition and yours alone, a declaration to the Universe you are worthy and ready to take advantage of the great life you’ve been given.

Each of the five lessons offers you tools and a deeper understanding of who you are and what has been standing in your way.

Session 1: Setting Healthy Boundaries – Say Yes to You
Are you a people pleaser and/or conflict avoider? Do you believe self-care is selfish? By avoiding setting healthy boundaries, you chose long-term unhappiness over short term discomfort. Boundaries are key to feeling more self-love, emotionally whole, and more at peace.

Session 2: Why Live Bigger?
We were all put on this earth to be all we can be. We enter this world ready to be anything and everything but little by little we shut parts of ourselves away, and as adults we continue to listen to the inner critic who no longer serves us. It is the voice that says: “play small to stay safe,” or “we aren’t good enough” or we need to “control everything to stay safe.”

I will help you uncover the disempowering belief and unconscious commitment that are keeping you from living the life of your dreams. You will form a new empowering belief to support you in living bigger, better and braver.

Session 3:  Stop the Cycle of Self-Sabotage
You will learn to modify your disempowering thoughts and behaviors and recognize the drivers and triggers that keep you staying small and undermine your efforts to move powerfully forward.

Session 4: Incompletions
When you get out of auto pilot and take an honest look at your life, you can discover what’s holding you back, weighing you down, and robbing you of your agility. We call these “incompletions.”

Incompletions are actions we haven’t taken in the past that create a barrier in the present. They are the stuff we’re still carrying with us we’ve not put to rest. Incompletions drain us, and/or we use them to beat ourselves up.

You’ll look at how incompletions show up in your life, externally and internally, and what you can do to turn them in to completions.

Session 5: The Essentials of Living Relationally
Living relationally means cultivating the daily practice of Full Respect Living with yourself and with others at the same time. As a coach with Terry Real and Relational Life Therapy, I will help you cultivate loving practices and healthy intimacy. Nothing is more important in our lives than our relationships. A great relationship will boost your immune system and keep your vibrant and engaged. I think this session is a must for everyone.

When was the last time you weren’t trying to change something about yourself? What if you could move out of fixing mode, not-enoughness, and past or future thinking and be guided by curiosity and compassion? In this session you’ll explore the practice of identifying, naming, and investigating the stories you tell yourself. You’ll make room for a new narrative grounded in your own inner wisdom and love.

Say YES to Your Aliveness
Release the past and future to create space for living your ideal life. Get out of your head and step boldly into your heart. Embrace your inner storyteller to visualize and manifest what feels most delicious in your heart. Create your own personal roadmap, guided by your inner strength and wisdom, to write the next chapter in your life.

Living this New Year with Self-Compassion

Life has pain. Despite your best intentions, things go wrong. How do you usually react when things fall apart? Often, people feel ashamed and self-critical, thinking “What’s wrong with me?” No matter how hard you try to avoid emotional pain, it’s everywhere. Can you make a change this year and learn to respond to pain differently? Instead of thinking that you are broken and need to be fixed, these sessions teach how to relate to emotional pain in a more compassionate and loving way. This series will explore a radical, scientifically supported way to respond to pain: through self-compassion.

Defining Self-Compassion.
Simply put, self-compassion is taking care of yourself, just as you would care for someone you love dearly. In this session, we will explore the three parts of self-compassion: mindfulness, common humanity, and self-kindness. We will apply this lesson through compassionate emotion surfing.

Experiencing Self-Love.
In this session, you will enjoy experiential practices of affectionate breathing, compassionate self-touch, and gratitude for yourself. We will explore the reality of the negativity brain bias and over-ride that tendency with self-appreciation.

The Yin and Yang of Self-Compassion.
Is self-compassion always just a fluffy, touchy-feeling practice? Not at all! There is a fearsome side! This session focuses on the two sides of self-compassion, emphasizing the yin (comforting, soothing, validating) and yang (protecting, providing, motivating).

Nonjudgmental Acceptance.
“What you resist persists. What you feel can heal.” When you hate, resist, and judge yourself, you get stuck. This session explores how to befriend yourself, just as you are. We examine the inner critic and replace it with a compassionate coach.

Embracing your Body with Self-Compassion.
Your sense of self is often closely identified with your body, and it can be painful when your body doesn’t look, behave, or feel the way you want. In this final session, we will apply our core strategies of non-judgmental mindfulness, common humanity, and self-kindness – specifically toward your body.

 

Julie Kangas, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist, certified yoga teacher, and a certified compassion meditation teacher. She is an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of California, San Diego and a clinic coordinator at the San Diego VA. She treats Veterans with PTSD and participates in research applying yoga, self-compassion, and meditation as treatments for mental and physical illness. She serves as the Director of the Advanced Fellowship for Women’s Health and teaches doctoral and post-doctoral candidates in clinical psychology. Defining Self-Compassion.
Simply put, self-compassion is taking care of yourself, just as you would care for someone you love dearly. In this session, we will explore the three parts of self-compassion: mindfulness, common humanity, and self-kindness. We will apply this lesson through compassionate emotion surfing.

Experiencing Self-Love.
In this session, you will enjoy experiential practices of affectionate breathing, compassionate self-touch, and gratitude for yourself. We will explore the reality of the negativity brain bias and over-ride that tendency with self-appreciation.

The Yin and Yang of Self-Compassion.
Is self-compassion always just a fluffy, touchy-feeling practice? Not at all! There is a fearsome side! This session focuses on the two sides of self-compassion, emphasizing the yin (comforting, soothing, validating) and yang (protecting, providing, motivating).

Nonjudgmental Acceptance.
“What you resist persists. What you feel can heal.” When you hate, resist, and judge yourself, you get stuck. This session explores how to befriend yourself, just as you are. We examine the inner critic and replace it with a compassionate coach.

Embracing your Body with Self-Compassion.
Your sense of self is often closely identified with your body, and it can be painful when your body doesn’t look, behave, or feel the way you want. In this final session, we will apply our core strategies of non-judgmental mindfulness, common humanity, and self-kindness – specifically toward your body.

 

Julie Kangas, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist, certified yoga teacher, and a certified compassion meditation teacher. She is an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of California, San Diego and a clinic coordinator at the San Diego VA. She treats Veterans with PTSD and participates in research applying yoga, self-compassion, and meditation as treatments for mental and physical illness. She serves as the Director of the Advanced Fellowship for Women’s Health and teaches doctoral and post-doctoral candidates in clinical psychology.
